Abstract

Geometric road design plays a crucial role in enhancing traffic safety, especially amid increasing vehicle volumes and the complexity of roadway networks. This study aims to analyze the relationship between geometric design elements—such as curve radius, lane width, longitudinal gradient, and stopping sight distance—and accident rates on three segments of national roads with differing characteristics. A mixed methods approach was employed, combining field surveys, design document analysis, and interviews with stakeholders. The results indicate that non-compliance with geometric standards, particularly in sharp curves and steep downhill sections, significantly increases the risk of accidents. These findings are supported by statistical analysis, which shows a negative correlation between curve radius and accident frequency. The study recommends stricter implementation of geometric design standards, improved road signage and markings, and regular evaluation of geometric conditions to enhance road user safety.
